Seven Losses is up
My story “Seven Losses of Na Re” is up today at the Daily Science Fiction website. There seems to be a debate at the Daily SF facebook page as to whether it’s genre at all.
I’d rather not defend my story’s genre cred. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Well, only one person said so and even he liked it as (gasp!) “literary fiction” — the old false dilemma again.
I counted four and a bunch of people who agreed with the four.
Jewish magic realism predates genre; it’s its own thing. I am glad it was published and am quite happy about the fact that it was my third and last SFWA-qualifying sale.
I just counted the guy who said he rated it low because it wasn’t speculative fiction by his dim-bulb lights.
It’s definitely magic realism, so the bleatings about genre boundaries are invalid (leaving the quality of the writing entirely aside).
Judging from its overall score on the DSF webpage, he cannot be the only one who rated it low due to perceived non-genre-itis. But yeah…
